M-A's and Mom's recycle project

We started out with this fence that has been leaning on the house for about 8 or 9 years! I had bought it to fence off a side of the yard that seemed dangerous for the kids....when they were little.  I don't think they need it now, but as you can see no one ever installed it.
So the other day I was wondering what to do about this front garden because the dirt kept spilling over onto the steps when I watered the flowers.  Marc-Antoine suggested that we pull the fence apart and cut the pickets into 20cm pieces and make a little border.

So here he is, happily hammering, sawing and using that big brain of his. I told him that he's lucky to be artistic and also good in math.  He reminds me of Steve!

We hammered the little pieces in and this is what it looks like...

I am so happy!  I have been dreaming of something like this ever since we moved here.
This is at the front door, it wasn't finished yet in the picture, but you get the idea

Then we had this problem at the bottom of the steps. It is very steep and all the dirt was falling on the driveway.  And it's really ugly. So with the remaining cross boards which were long and thicker we made a little fence.

Isn't this so much better? I just can't believe how simple it was, and we didn't buy a thing! Well, if you don't count the fence from many years ago.  It is also nice that there is no longer an old fence leaning agaisnt the house!
I still have some flowers to plant but it has been raining, so I will eventually get around to it.
I have had those blue pots for probably 10 years and never used them, because they were for hanging on the wall, so I broke the bottoms and stuck them in the dirt.  What do you think?
