kitchen update

I gave myself a little gift.  Matching appliances.  The old stuff was still working but all mismatched and not very pretty. It all started because I found the coffee machine on sale half off.  Then I tracked down the other two in France and paid a leeeetle too much for them, but like I said, I was giving myself a little gift.

There is lots of room on the counter now and a great place to work. And it is pleasimg to the eye ;-)

I figured I wouldn't get around to cleaning the kitchen perfectly for pictures so here is a larger view of the new stuff I did in here. The curtains are pinched in the middle with butterfly clips.

Bunnies, bunnies, bunnies.....

We finally have little bunnies.  We aren't sure how many though. These are Bridgit's attempt to get a closer look. They are very well hidden.  On Friday night we came home and she went to check on them. She ran inside to tell us there was a baby.  There was just one little white one sitting in the cage.  We thought there was only that one. Then she went out a few days later and she saw the little bundle of the others.  She came to tell us there were three. Last night she said she had counted five.  We're afraid she will come in tonight and say seven..... HELP!

I just hope they aren't cross eyed like this little guy.

Have you ever seen a crossed eyed chocolate bunny?

A New Car

Here is our new little car.  It's a Skoda Fabia. We all have to get used to driving a diesel now. It's lots of fun, noisy, but fun.

Maps

I have been very lucky to score two beautiful old school maps on canvas.  I asked at the school if they had any that weren't in use and found out that they don't really use them anymore and they were just sitting on the floor of the storage room.  I got a map of Europe and one of Switzerland.  Then my three men risked life and limb putting them up for me!

He looks comfy!  He had white plaster dust all over his head from the drilling.

I found some carved wooden sqaures with hooks to hang them from. What do you think?  It makes the stairwell "warmer" if you know what I mean.

This is an outdoor wooden bench that I painted orange with a bit of blue. I went "shopping" in the basement for some pillows and a blanket to make it cozy.

Some words of encouragement for my dear husband...

Kitchen update

To add a bit of color to my kitchen I asked Bridgit to paint some picures for me. I had them laminated and then put some primer on some old frames, did some sanding then put a black string across the back to hang the pictues with little clothes pins.

Marc-Antone did this one in school and I kept it, the colors are perfect for the kitchen.  I still need to laminate it. The little shelf was found at Ikea and I painted it. I think it needs some green plants, or maybe some colored bottles.

Bridgit made this in school, mosaic and rattan. It is actually a serving tray.  The curtains you can see in this picture are from a resale shop in Post Falls. They are plain white with a blue embroidred border.  I hung them upside down so I can see the border better.

I got this at Ikea too.  It's a bar that's fixed to the table, I got some hooks that slip onto it. There are these baskets or there are little tin pails to hook on it.  I am using it for a fruit basket. It clears up the table.  I had to add a piece of molding so the baskets would sit straight. I painted it navy then glued it to the table.
I know I need to take a better picture of the kitchen so you can see it all. I need to clean it first!

Drapes in the stairwell

I have been wanting to change the curtains in the stairwell for awhile and the other day at Ikea I found these panels on sale two for 5 francs. I am pretty happy how they turned out. They are very long so I just folded the ends and tied them with some cotton yarn I had on hand. To make them look like tassels I just folded a long strand and then clipped the loops.

Painted kitchen

I have been wanting to paint this wall in my kitchen for awhile. It is a it odd with the vent in the middle. Also the wood around the window wasn't too pretty so I painted it too. Around the window is navy and the wall is the same color I used on the little chest of drawers ( in another post). I love the was the wall has a lot of texture that shows when you put color on it. I have the green light to paint the master bedroom too. Everyone liked the kitchen so I am all excited to start elsewhere. The kitchen now needs some new curtains but I think I will wait until this summer and get some in the states.

A new machine and a bit of woman power!

Well, my 15 year old washing machine konked out and like a big girl I went on the Internet and ordered another one on a discount site. I got the same brand so the same maintenance  man could come fix it if the need arises. But this time I got one that has a really big capacity ( 8 kilos).  When I ordered I was able to pay for the installation of the new machine and hauling away of the old one. Well, I was feeling very happy since is was all so easy.  Then they called to say that they didn't have any one in my area to install the machine, so they refunded the money and I was stuck with looking for a way to get it installed.  The problem around here is that most people who do that kind of thing also sell machines too. So I felt a bit strange calling to say I just needed an installation and to get rid of the old machine. Pierre told me it was going to cost me a fortune and that I would have a hard time finding someone. Well after I lost a bit of sleep on that I said my rosary asking for help and decided to ask my father in law to do it. We also have a dump here in the village that we can bring the old machine for recycling. Everything was set, then my father in law called and said he was sick. So they delivered that machine, I read the installation manual and hooked that thing up all by myself!  Marc- Antoine was here and he helped move the machines around with a dolly.  So far there is no water squirting everywhere....
